Investing in a new imaging device, tailored to image infection processes and host-pathogen interactions particularly in live samples and the analysis means required for full and proper operation.
The Institut Pasteur UTechS Photonic BioImaging (PBI) and Image Analysis Hub (IAH) facilities plan to upgrade Pasteur BSL2 imaging infrastructure with the installation of a fully integrated, versatile high-end imaging system tailored to the specific needs of infection diseases studies. The system will be fully integrated into our level two access management biocontainment laboratory allowing a broad range of samples including human pathogens, and primary human cells to be safely handled in high-quality workflows. In this context our expert professional technology team will assure development and access to the state-of-the-art facilities benefiting Pasteurian researchers and the regional research community alike.
The technology retained in this proposal is the Zeiss Cell Discoverer 7. It is an automated microscope well suited to be placed in a special BSL2 environment that will allow imaging pathogens such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria meningitidis, Legionella pneumophila, Shigella flexneri, Trypanosoma brucei… The imaging modalities offered by this device are such that it gives access to high resolution imaging, enabling researchers to resolve and dissect infection events at a sub-cellular resolution, down to 120 nm. It is well suited to the study of pathogenic processes. Indeed, infection events are typically rare, but the state-of-the-art automation offered by this microscope will make it possible to capture them in full.
